GoDaddy had the most reliable hosting company site in December 2019, with no failed requests and the fastest average connection time. In 2019, GoDaddy had one of the top 10 most reliable hosting company sites nine times. GoDaddy provides a wide range of hosting and domain registration services, including its widely used website builder software, which gives customers a simple way to create a web presence.
The top seven hosting company sites each responded to all of Netcraft’s requests in December and are separated by average connection time. In second place, New York Internet (NYI) offers bare metal, cloud and colocation services in its US datacentres. Webair, which appeared in third place, provide a range of services including managed hosting solutions and high performance cloud environments, with colocation available in North America, Europe and Singapore. Hyve Managed Hosting appeared 10 times in the top 10 in 2019 and Pair Networks appeared 11 times.
Linux was the most popular operating system in December 2019, used by eight of the top 10 most reliable hosting company sites. FreeBSD appears in second place with New York Internet and SmartOS makes an appearance in ninth place with EveryCity.
Netcraft measures and makes available the response times of around twenty leading hosting providers’ sites. The performance measurements are made at fifteen minute intervals from separate points around the internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.
From a customer’s point of view, the percentage of failed requests is more pertinent than outages on hosting companies’ own sites, as this gives a pointer to reliability of routing, and this is why we choose to rank our table by fewest failed requests, rather than shortest periods of outage. In the event the number of failed requests are equal then sites are ranked by average connection times.
Information on the measurement process and current measurements is available.
