In February 2020 Choopa.com had the most reliable hosting company site. This month, all 10 of the top 10 hosting company sites responded to all of Netcraft’s requests and so were separated by average connection time. Choopa.com provides cloud hosting, dedicated servers, colocation and managed services from its primary data centre in Piscataway, New Jersey, and also has facilities in Los Angeles, Amsterdam and Tokyo.
The top three hosting company sites had average connection times below 10ms. GoDaddy, who appeared in second place, provide a wide range of hosting and domain registration services with 9 global data centres. In third place, Rackspace offers managed dedicated and cloud hosting solutions. Rackspace has appeared in the top 10 every month for the last 13 months.
New York Internet (NYI), in fourth place, has appeared in the top 10 for the past seven consecutive months. NYI offers bare metal, cloud and colocation services in its US data centres.
Seven of February’s 10 most reliable hosting company sites were running Linux. FreeBSD appears twice, with New York Internet (NYI) and Swishmail. SmartOS also makes an appearance with EveryCity.
Netcraft measures and makes available the response times of around twenty leading hosting providers’ sites. The performance measurements are made at fifteen minute intervals from separate points around the internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.
From a customer’s point of view, the percentage of failed requests is more pertinent than outages on hosting companies’ own sites, as this gives a pointer to reliability of routing, and this is why we choose to rank our table by fewest failed requests, rather than shortest periods of outage. In the event the number of failed requests are equal then sites are ranked by average connection times.
Information on the measurement process and current measurements is available.
