Slovenian .SI Domain Registrations Outpace .AI After Trump’s ‘Super Intelligence’ AI Rename
Registrations of Slovenian .si domains overtook .ai in the 25 hours after President Trump told the UN General Assembly on September 22 that the U.S. would call AI “super intelligence” (SI).
In his speech, Trump proposed referring to artificial intelligence as "super intelligence," using the abbreviation SI, arguing that the word “artificial” makes the technology sound fake.
We have also detected what appears to be speculative purchasing of .si domains through Dynadot following a series of social media posts by Trump prior to his UN speech suggesting that AI may be renamed. More than 50% of these .si domains purchased between the social media post and his UN speech are currently for sale on Dynadot’s domain aftermarket.

‘Super intelligence’
Three years ago, we reported on a rise in web servers using .ai (Anguilla) domains driven by global interest in artificial intelligence. With Trump’s new super intelligence announcement, and .si being a registrable ccTLD (country code TLD) representing the country of Slovenia, we investigated domain registration patterns surrounding the announcement.
Slovenia is a Central European country that sits between Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia. Though unrelated, there is a second connection between Trump and Slovenia. Both Melania and Barron Trump have Slovenian citizenship.
Spike in registrations
Interest in the .si TLD has risen sharply since the announcement on September 22. At time of writing, the website for Slovenia’s registry, register.si, shows more new domains registered in the “last 24 hours” than in the “last month” (presumably meaning the previous month).

Despite the ccTLD being Slovenian, registration is not limited to Slovenian people or entities. Anyone can register a .si domain.
Currently, .si domains are cheaper than .ai, at around $11 for one year compared to around $180 for the minimum 2-year registration period for .ai.

While registrations accelerated after the speech, the initial spike appears to have begun roughly three days earlier. This suggests that some market participants may have been speculating on the possibility of a rename before Trump's remarks were delivered, though we cannot determine whether registrants were acting on anticipation of the announcement or unrelated factors. Trump shared a poll about this topic on September 19, which appears to line up roughly with the increased registrations of .si domains as seen in Figure 1.
Splitting the registrations by domain registrar, we can see that these registrations are largely at Dynadot, which has an aftermarket that allows users to sell their domains.
Domain aftermarkets
Approximately 52% of the .si domains that we detected as registered at Dynadot between the Truth Social poll at 15:29 UTC on September 19 and 15:00 UTC on September 22 (approximate time of Trump mentioning “super intelligence” in his UN speech) are listed on Dynadot’s aftermarket at the time of writing on September 23. Some examples of .si domains purchased in the lead-up to the UN speech and then listed on the aftermarket include donaldjtrump[.]si, superintell[.]si, boeing[.]si, puffin[.]si, vaccination[.]si and unitedstate[.]si.
By correctly predicting increased interest in a certain TLD, an investor could potentially stand to profit by speculatively buying domains at retail price and then reselling them when there is interest. This could well be what has happened here. The Dynadot aftermarket domains are listed at prices above what it would cost if they were unregistered. As can be seen in the screenshot below, people are bidding on .si domains in the aftermarket.

Domain registrants were not the only ones speculating, at 19:22 UTC on September 20 a Polymarket event “Trump renames AI by September 30?” opened, which, as of the afternoon of September 23, had bets totaling $151,000 USD.
Matching .si domains with .ai equivalents
We’ve detected more than 44,000 of the currently registered .si and .ai domains that share the same second-level domain string. For example, meta[.]ai and meta[.]si both exist. This accounts for 22% of all .si domains.
1,500 of these .si/.ai domain pairs resolved to the same IP address, though many of these are advertised as holding or for sale, where a shared IP does not imply common ownership.

Cybercrime implications
We currently see a low level of fraud on the .si TLD. In a world where super intelligence and SI catch on as names, we could expect cybercrime on .si to increase with criminals potentially looking to profit from those who start to see .si as a trustworthy TLD.
Additionally, because 's' sits next to 'a' on a QWERTY keyboard, a .si domain is a one-keystroke typo of its .ai equivalent, so criminals could register .si lookalikes of legitimate .ai sites. We raised the same risk for .ai and .au in 2023.
With .si becoming a more desirable TLD, companies may be affected by ‘cybersquatting’, where someone registers .si domains matching an existing brand to sell them to the brand for a profit.
