GoDaddy had the most reliable hosting company site in January 2020, with no failed requests and an average connection time of 4ms. This is the second consecutive month that GoDaddy has topped the table. GoDaddy provides a wide range of hosting and domain registration services, including its widely used website builder software, which gives customers a simple way to create a web presence.
All but one of the top 10 also responded to each of Netcraft’s requests in January, and are separated in the ranking by their average connection time. This puts Rackspace narrowly into second place, with an average time of 6ms. Rackspace offers a variety of managed dedicated and cloud hosting solutions, and has appeared in the top 10 in each of the last 12 months.
Webair placed third this month, with an average connection time of 70ms. Webair supplies services including managed hosting solutions and high performance cloud environments.
Linux retains its place as the most popular choice of operating system, powering eight of the top 10 sites this month. SmartOS and FreeBSD also each make an appearance, used by EveryCity and New York Internet respectively.
Netcraft measures and makes available the response times of around twenty leading hosting providers’ sites. The performance measurements are made at fifteen minute intervals from separate points around the internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.
From a customer’s point of view, the percentage of failed requests is more pertinent than outages on hosting companies’ own sites, as this gives a pointer to reliability of routing, and this is why we choose to rank our table by fewest failed requests, rather than shortest periods of outage. In the event the number of failed requests are equal then sites are ranked by average connection times.
Information on the measurement process and current measurements is available.
